SUBJECT: Rothermere Fellowship deadline extended

DATE: January 25, 2010

Students interested in applying for one of Memorial’s most prestigious fellowships have extra time to submit their candidacy for the award. The deadline for the Rothermere Fellowship has been extended to Feb. 26, 2010.
Made possible by the generosity of the Rothermere Trust, the fellowship provides aid to students wishing to study for a higher degree in the United Kingdom. It has opened doors for dozens of students to continue their post-secondary education.
Established by Lord Rothermere, Memorial University’s first chancellor, in 1956, the fellowship is one of the most lucrative awards available to Memorial students who wish to continue on to doctoral studies in the U.K.
The financial benefits include a living allowance of about $24,000 per year, university tuition fees and travel. One award is made each year by the Rothermere Trust.
Past recipients include Memorial archaeology professor and chair of the board of directors of The Rooms, Dr. Priscilla Renouf, and Member of Parliament and lawyer Jack Harris.
In order to be eligible for the fellowship, candidates shall have completed a bachelor’s degree at Memorial and have completed or be about to complete a master’s degree either at Memorial or at another university in North America.
