News Release

REF NO.: 31

SUBJECT: PSA: Building to remain closed until at least 2 p.m.

DATE: October 2, 2009

The Chemistry-Physics Building will remain closed until at least 2 p.m. today, Friday, Oct. 2, 2009.
A power transfer switch has failed on the St. John’s campus of Memorial University, causing a power failure to the Chemistry-Physics Building. All classes and labs scheduled to take place in this building are cancelled until power can be restored.
Memorial’s Computing and Communications department reports that the Chem-Physics Building is a major hub for electronic communications but since there are redundancies built into the system, some services such as (VOIP) phone service are continuing largely unaffected. Other services, such as internet access and email, are working sporadically, varying from building to building.   C&C expects to have problems resolved once power is restored to the Chem-Physics building, estimated to be about 1 p.m. today.
Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to monitor news media and check www.mun.ca for further information and updates about classes and other scheduled activities taking place in the afternoon.  Updates are also available on Twitter at MemorialU.
