SUBJECT: Marine Institute hosts public lecture regarding oceans health

The Fisheries and Marine Institute (MI) of Memorial University of Newfoundland hosts a public lecture tonight at 5 p.m. in Hampton Hall. The theme of the lecture is oceans health and the media is invited to attend.
The featured speakers include Dr. George Rose, professor of Fisheries Conservation at the Marine Institute and Captain Mark Schrader, captain of the Ocean Watch, a 64-foot sailboat that is travelling around North and South America as part of the Around the Americas project, an ocean-environment initiative that aims to build awareness about ocean health on an international scale.
Captain Schrader is a renowned sailor who had sailed around the world on three separate occasions. Dr. Rose is the author of the acclaimed book Cod: The Ecological History of the North Atlantic Fisheries.
The Marine Institute is acting as port host for Captain Schrader and his crew during their visit to St. John’s. The Ocean Watch arrived on Friday, Sept. 11 and departs on Tuesday, Sept. 15.
