SUBJECT: Grenfell: Visiting artist Thomas McIntosh to present public lecture

DATE: September 28, 2009

The visual arts program at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College proudly presents Thomas McIntosh of Montreal, Que., as part of the Visiting Artists Series.

Mr. McIntosh will visit Grenfell College and the visual arts program Oct. 1 and 2, with a public lecture on Thursday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. in LC301 (Library and Computing Building).

Thomas McIntosh studied architecture at Carleton University in Ottawa and at Berlin Technical University, Germany. He holds a bachelor of architecture with high distinction from Carleton University.

Through the study of architecture he developed an interest in the aspects of our physical environment that affect our perception in the point of cross over between experience and architecture. It is the exploration of this relationship, which he believes to be key to the question of architecture, which led him to form [The User] in collaboration with Emmanuel Madan.

Mr. McIntosh worked with numerous architectural firms in Berlin during the period of reconstruction following German reunification. Currently, he manages Performance Architecture, a Montreal-based design/build company specializing in interior design and the architecture of installations, performances and site specific works. Performance Architecture's clientele ranges from galleries and clothing stores to Musique Plus.

Examples of his work can be found at http://www.silophone.net and http://www.fondation-langlois.org/html/e/page.php?NumPage=35.
