SUBJECT: Grenfell: Distinguished British actor to visit Grenfell theatre program

DATE: November 19, 2009

For the past 17 years, British stage, film and television actor Peter Wight has been “our man in London”. Every year Peter has organized and taught a Master Class in acting for our fourth year acting students while they are in Harlow. Through Peter’s generosity and connections our student have met and taken workshops in both London and Stratford with some of the top members of the profession in England.

In the meantime, Peter has been pursuing an extraordinary career. He has performed on stage as a leading actor with both the Royal National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company as well as in London’s West End and on Broadway. On television he has starred in three separate dramatic series as well as in numerous made for television movies (if you have seen a Masterpiece Theatre adaptation of Dickens Austen or Hardy, you’ve seen Peter!). In film, Peter has been a regular in almost all films by Mike Leigh, perhaps most memorably as the sympathetic detective in the academy award nominated Vera Drake. He has appeared twice opposite Keira Knightly (Pride and Prejudice and Atonement) and he was the guy who took on Brad Pitt in Babel.

Most recently Peter appeared on Broadway opposite Kristen Scott Thomas (The English Patient)in a production of The Seagull which the critic for the New York Times called, “the finest Chekov production in living memory.”

Peter will give a public talk about his life as a working actor in the Fine Arts Theatre at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 24. All are welcome.
