SUBJECT: Grand opening of new Autonomous Ocean Systems Laboratory at Memorial University

            Media representatives are invited to attend the grand opening of Memorial University’s Autonomous Ocean Systems Laboratory (AOSL) on Tuesday,
June 8.
            Participants include Dr. Ray Gosine, vice president (research) pro tempore, Memorial University; Glenn Janes, chief executive officer of Research & Development Corporation of Newfoundland and Labrador; and Dr. Ralf Bachmayer, associate professor and Canada Research Chair in Ocean Technology, Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Memorial and principal investigator of the Autonomous Ocean Systems Laboratory.
            The event will take place at 9:30 a.m. in the Autonomous Ocean Systems Laboratory (room EN-1035E) of the S.J. Carew (Engineering) Building, Memorial University, St. John’s Campus. A reception will follow.
            Please note: Following the grand opening, media representatives are invited on a special guided description and demonstration of the latest research projects and equipment in the AOSL. There will also be a demonstration of the Sea-eye Falcon Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) manoeuvring and performing tasks in the faculty’s Ocean Engineering Research Centre’s tow tank. Please wear closed-toe footwear.
