REF NO.: 186

SUBJECT: Memorial University seeking nominations for president

DATE: June 16, 2009

Who do you think would make a good candidate for the position of president of Memorial University of Newfoundland?
In an effort to develop a comprehensive list of candidates, the university is seeking nominations for the position.
The search for the new president of Memorial University is continuing with the development of a profile for the ideal candidate, advertising for the position and now this open call for nominations of candidates (further information is available here: http://www.mun.ca/regents/presidential_search/).
Recently, Memorial’s Presidential Search Committee concluded consultations with the university and external communities. The committee was gathering feedback to develop the position profile.
According to Bob Simmonds, chair of the search committee and the Board of Regents, the committee now is seeking further public input by way of nominations.
“Our executive search consultant, Janet Wright and Associates, has recommended that we go out to the university and the broader community and ask for nominations based on the characteristics in that profile. This will augment the other activities we are undertaking to develop a list of quality candidates to be considered for the position,” he said.
In terms of nominations, the Presidential Search Committee is seeking names and any details as to the qualifications and experience that form the basis of which an individual merits consideration. All nominations will remain confidential.
Nominations can be sent to the consulting firm, Janet Wright and Associates Inc. (JWA), 174 Bedford Road, Toronto, Ontario, M5R 2K9, Phone: 416-923-3008; e-mail: munpres@jwasearch.com.
