SUBJECT: Memorial University comes alive during fall celebrations

From Oct. 21-25, Memorial University of Newfoundland will hold MUNdays, its annual fall celebrations.
On the St. John’s campus, events fall under the banner of I Love MUNdays.
A variety of events ranging from a truck pull to a battle of the bands to an international bazaar are taking place.
MUNdays highlights the diversity, ingenuity, excellence, kindness and community spirit that distinguish Memorial as one of the best post-secondary institutions in the world.
A full slate of events and activities are planned, encouraging students, staff, faculty and alumni to come together and celebrate Memorial.
Below is just a sampling of story and photo ideas for journalists, photographers and videographers.
 
           I Love MUNdays Launch
Tuesday, Oct. 21, 10:30 a.m., Food Court, University Centre, third floor
Join students, faculty and staff for a cheerful kick-off to this year’s activities.
 
           International Parade of Flags
Tuesday, Oct. 21, 11:15 a.m., begins just after launch
International student representatives will march through campus with their countries’ flags held high with enthusiasm and pride.
 
           Battle of the Sexes and Out-Move Sammy challenge
Tuesday, Oct. 21, 6-7 p.m., Field House
Memorial’s men and women’s Sea-Hawks basketball teams lace up for an exhibition game. At half time, mascots from residence houses will dance-off against Memorial’s own Sammy the Sea-Hawk for a big prize and two lucky audience members will get a chance to demonstrate their athletic prowess for a chance to win $10,000.
 
           Rant like Rick finals
Wednesday, Oct. 22, 12-2 p.m., University Centre, room UC-3017
Memorial crowns its best loudmouth from 10 student finalists – nine from St. John’s and one from Corner Brook.
 
           International Bazaar
Thursday, Oct. 23, 12-3 p.m., University Centre, room UC-3017
Taste your way around the world. This year’s bazaar will include a marketplace of world music, tastes, sights and sounds. 
 
           MUNdays Idle Free
Friday, Oct. 24, 12-2 p.m., outside the Arts and Administration and Education buildings
Volunteers with Memorial’s Sustainability Office and Project Green will encourage motorists to be kind to the environment (and to their wallets) by turning off their engines while waiting.
                                                                                                           
           Sixth annual Barnes House Charity Truck Pull
Saturday, Oct. 25, 1-3 p.m., Parking Lot 15 (outside Music Building)
Students and employees will join forces to pull an 18-wheeler in record time to help raise money for the Iris Kirby House.
