          Dr. Arn Keeling will visit Grenfell College on Monday April 6, at 3 pm in AS383A as part of the Environmental Policy Institute's Speakers Series.
           Dr. Keeling, MUN Geography, will discuss his research interests in mining and environmental justice and present a talk titled “Geographies of Mining and Environmental Justice in Canada’s North.” Please see the attached flyer for all details.
           Dr. Keeling holds a BA from Carleton University (1996), an MA from the University of British Columbia (1999) in History and a PhD from the University of British Columbia (2004) in Geography. He subsequently spent a year as a SSHRC postdoctoral fellow in geography at the University of Saskatchewan, then another as an NSF-funded postdoc in the Department of History and Philosophy at Montana State University, Bozeman. Dr. Keeling’s research and publications on the environmental history of Canada focus on Western and Northern Canada, and include studies of domestic and industrial pollution, pollution control and environmental regulation, mining and Northern development, environmental politics, and the history of the conservation/environmental movement. He is currently working on a manuscript on the history of pollution in British Columbia, entitled “The Effluent Society.” He is also interested in historical-geographical approaches to environmental science, political ecology and environmental justice.
