SUBJECT: Grenfell: Provincial schools gain enrichment through Theatre Newfoundland Labrador

Many schools in western Newfoundland and Labrador are learning through the arts thanks to Theatre Newfoundland Labrador’s (TNL) productions.
This spring season, TNL is offering two productions which are of importance to programming in local school districts.
Here and There, a TNL Youth Theatre production, has been crafted using stories from around the world. The plays being performed reflect different theatre styles – such as Japanese Kabuki/Noh to chorus style to puppetry.
Meanwhile, TNL’s Pride and Prejudice is a full-length production of Jon Jory’s stage adaptation of the Jane Austen classic. Fantastic projected sets, amazing costumes and a talented cast will vault this first-time Atlantic Canada production onto the stage.
“This full-on production is a do-not-miss,” said Sara…h Anderson, TNL Artistic Associate. “The costumes are unparalleled; the set is a remarkable set projection, and our actors are working with a script that has yet to be enacted in Atlantic Canada. If you are a Jane Austen fan, this show will whisk you away.”
TNL has had excellent responses from outside the Corner Brook area with respect to elementary, junior high and high schools which are looking to supplement their academic offerings.
CC Loughlin Elementary is the only Corner Brook School to book so far; they’ll be bringing students to Here and There.
To date, outside of Corner Brook, Here and There has received bookings from Jakeman All Grade in Trout River, Elwood Junior High in Deer Lake and Grandy's River Collegiate. Schools booked for Pride and Prejudice include Elwood Junior High, Jakeman All Grade and St. Boniface All Grade High School in Ramea. TNL is especially pleased at the prospect of students from the Mushuau Innu Natuashish School in Labrador attending Here and There - the students wrote "Manteau Becomes a Man," which is featured in Here and There.
“We’re extremely pleased that schools from outside the immediate Corner Brook region are taking an interest in the resources available through our province’s west coast professional theatre company,” said Gaylene Buckle, General Manager, Theatre Newfoundland Labrador. “Additionally we encourage the schools within the Corner Brook area to take a closer look at the supplementary artistic and literary enrichment we are offering right on their doorstep.”
