SUBJECT: Grenfell: Celebrating 30 years of theatre with Oliver!

DATE: November 14, 2008

2009 is a celebratory year for Theatre Newfoundland Labrador!
For 30 years, we've been producing plays, supporting our province's writers and actors, providing employment for our university's graduates and offering grassroots instruction for the talented youth of our region.
And now we're pleased to bring our second production of "Oliver!" to the Corner Brook Arts and Culture stage. The show was extremely popular with audiences when TNL first staged the production in 1985; so popular in fact, it was remounted the following season. TNL's 2008 production of "Oliver!" will bring together some of the same cast from the previous production - all 23 years older and even more talented!
TNL's Artistic Director Jeff Pitcher believes this to be the perfect play with which to celebrate 30 years of community musicals in Corner Brook. "It's a chance for our audiences and our talented community actors to reminisce."
Pitcher said he's thrilled to have Cliff LeJeune directing this year's production. Well known to TNL and Stephenville Theatre Festival audiences as an actor and director, LeJeune was last in Corner Brook to direct TNL's production of Paul Ledoux's FIRE in 1996. Gary Graham is musical director and Amy Andrews is choreographer.
"Oliver!" features Katie Manuel as Oliver, Jim Parsons as Mr. Bumble, Elizabeth Snow as Widow Corney, Dave Smallwood as Mr. Brownlow, Mark Smallwood as Bill Sykes, Matthew Payne as The Artful Dodger, Greg Taaffe as Fagin and Wendy Woodland as Nancy. Not to mention a talented chorus of adult performers and dozens of "orphans."
Tickets are available at the Corner Brook Arts and Culture Centre box office. Oliver runs nightly at 8 p.m., Nov. 20-23, with a matinee on Sunday at 2 p.m.
