2007-2008

News Release

REF NO.: 0

SUBJECT:

DATE: September 17, 2007

In May of this year Saskatchewan artist Michael Flaherty began a west to east cross continent bicycle journey. He began in Seattle, Washington and will end in St. John’s NL. This project, titled The Bicycle Rehabilitation Project, consists of Flaherty setting up exhibitions and his bicycle repair shop at art galleries across the land. While helping to improve the performance of your bicycle Flaherty will talk about his travels and share an appreciation of the bicycling as it relates to caring for the environment and personal relationships. The project is Flaherty’s own inquiry into the limits of sociopolitical activist art.
Flaherty will be in Corner Brook on Thursday, Sept. 20, and Friday, Sept. 21, of this week. On Thursday evening he will speak about the project at Grenfell College in LC301 of the Library and Computing Building at 7 p.m. On Friday Flaherty will set up his bicycle repair shop in the atrium of the Fine Arts Building and will repair bicycles and conduct bicycle repair tutorials for any members of the public who wish to drop in with their bicycles.
To see photos and to read Flaherty’s blog about the project see the Bicycle Rehabilitation Project website at: www.bicyclerehabilitationproject.com.
