SUBJECT:

DATE: November 6, 2007

The Visiting Artists Program of Sir Wilfred Grenfell College is pleased to present an illustrated talk by Canadian artist Edith Dakovic. Dakovic is a graduate of the Ontario College of Art and the Universitat der Kunste, Berlin. She has been living and working as an artist in Berlin for the last fifteen years.
Since 2001 her work has varied in subject: from playful figurative sculptures of men and women in contemporary clothing, to installation, and most recently large mysterious hybrid objects which seem to be part living creature, part ball, each covered in skin embellished with moles and tattoos. Consistent to the work of this period has been the use of materials such as silicone, and silastic rubber. These are materials which are very skin–like and allow Dakovic to imbed pigment, ink and even hair into the rubber surface.
Dakovic has exhibited across Canada and internationally throughout Germany, Denmark, Mexico and Madrid, Spain.
Her public presentation will take place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 13 in FA224 of the Fine Arts Building. All members of the public are welcome.
For further information contact visual arts instructor Les Sasaki at 637-6223.
