SUBJECT: Monte Carlo Charity Gala this weekend

DATE: November 19, 2007

The annual Monte Carlo Charity Gala takes place this Saturday, Nov. 24, starting at 7 p.m. at the St. John’s Convention Centre. Admission is one non-perishable food item for The St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Monte Carlo is an annual event organized by first and second year medical students. This year’s gala features gambling, a live and silent auction, and entertainment with Jazz East and the Insiders. Attire is formal (black tie optional). The charities selected for 2007 are Buckmasters Circle Community Centre, the Eating Disorder Foundation of Newfoundland Labrador, Libra House Inc., the Newfoundland and Labrador Brain Injury Association, Raising the Roof and the Special Olympics Newfoundland and Labrador.
Monte Carlo was founded by medical students in 1977 to raise money for an injured classmate. It has since grown into a gala evening of activity with all proceeds going to selected charities in Newfoundland and Labrador. Over previous years, this event has raised over $850,000 for many non-profit organizations.
