SUBJECT: SWGC: Sir Wilfred Grenfell College Web Team unveils new home page for college

DATE: March 28, 2006

CORNER BROOK – The Grenfell College Web Team is pleased to unveil a new look for the college’s home page. Located at www.swgc.mun.ca, the new site features a completely different visual design and a number of navigation changes.
“This new look was devised by web administrator Steve Walsh with input from the Grenfell College Web Team,” said Jo-Anne Philpott, chair of the Web Team. “The new site contains a news-and-events section to keep Grenfell happenings up to date, a picture slideshow and updated quick links menu and content. These measures will go a long way toward improving the communications function of the web site so we can better communicate with our various audiences.”
The changes to the home page were based on various requests the Web Team has received, as well as the feedback of a focus group, said Ms. Philpott.
“While it may take some getting used to, we hope the Grenfell community as well as the public will find the new site an improvement over the last,” she said. “The web is, after all, an ever-changing entity.”
One addition to the home page is a new and events section – selected Grenfell news stories will appear in the news section, along with upcoming college events in the events section. Another difference people will notice on occasion is the way class cancellations are publicized – instead of the scrolling marquee that was used previously, an orange box will now appear in the news section.
Feedback on the new look is welcome; individuals can access a comments link in the top menu.
“The menu system is similar to the previous menu, so navigating will be similar to the old web site,” said Ms. Philpott. “The Web Team is pleased to offer this new site and looks forward to any feedback people wish to offer.”
