SUBJECT: SWGC: Corner Brook video artist curates international screening event

DATE: January 12, 2006

312 OnScreen, in collaboration with Sir Wilfred Grenfell College Art Gallery, will present a screening of national and international video art on Wednesday, January 18 as a part of the art gallery’s Festival of Contemporary Film & Video. Selected from an open call for submissions, 312 OnScreen will show videos from France, United Kingdom, United States, and Canada, including videos from Newfoundland & Labrador.

The videos will cover topics ranging from the ghost of convicted murderer and avid ornithologist Nathan Leopold to the public punishment of women accused of having affairs with Germans during the Second World War in France. An eclectic variety of topics will be on screen, highlighting both the experimental and the straightforward.

312 OnScreen will feature videos by Alyssa Andrews (Montreal/Corner Brook), Kym Greeley (St. John’s), Wes Kline (Pittsburgh), Lisa Lipton (Windsor, ON), Jean-Gabriel Périot (France), Caroline Ross (Toronto), Kevin Ward (London, UK), and many others. 312 OnScreen is organized and curated by Mark Prier, himself a video artist and director of 312, an alternative exhibition space for one channel video art housed in the small foyer of a Corner Brook apartment and online at www.312.ca.

312 OnScreen will take place in the Fine Arts Lecture Theatre (FA224) at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 18. Refreshments will be served.
