SUBJECT: Visiting professor to talk about future of education

The Faculty of Education at Memorial University will host a public lecture on Thursday, Nov. 18, with Dr. Edmund O'Sullivan, professor of education at the University of Toronto, titled Education for the 21st Century: The Project and Vision of Transformative Education. The lecture will be held in room E-5004 of the Education Building on Memorial’s St. John’scampus, at 7 p.m.and will examine the vision for education in the 21st century and the long-term implications of market-driven educational practices.

Dr. O'Sullivan, will give another lecture titled The Ecological Terrain of Transformative Learning: A Vision Statement, on Friday, Nov. 19 in room E-5004 of the Education Building at 11 a.m. This lecture will look at the relationship between ecological vision and transformative learning and the core features of a transformative educational practice.

Dr. O’Sullivan is a professor of education at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Torontoand the director of the Transformative Learning Centre. His published works include Transformative Learning: Educational Vision for the 21st Century, Expanding the Boundaries of Transformative Learning, Learning Towards Ecological Consciousness, and Critical Psychology and Critical Pedagogy.
