SUBJECT: Memorial University to sponsor public forum on Atlantic Accord

Several units at Memorial University have teamed up to sponsor a public forum aimed at creating greater awareness of the issues surrounding the equalization debate. The forum – titled The Atlantic Accord, Equalization, and Offsets: An Independent Assessment – is being held on Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, and begins at 8 p.m. in room EN-2006, located in the Engineering Building on Memorial's St. John's campus.

The centerpiece of the forum is a presentation on equalization by Memorial economist Dr. Wade Locke. A panel discussion will follow the presentation and will feature political scientists Drs. Chris Dunn and Steve Tomblin and economist Dr. James Feehan. The forum will be moderated by Dr. Robert Greenwood, director of the Leslie Harris Centre of Regional Policy and Development. The public is invited to attend this forum and there is no admission charge.

University units involved in organizing this forum include the Leslie Harris Centre of Regional Policy and Development, the Faculty of Arts, the Departments of Political Science and the Department of Economics and the Oil and Gas Development Partnership.
