Offshore Wind Farms: Collaborative Research with the University Electronics Science and Technology of China (UESTC)

From August 6-10, 2018, Dr. Faisal Khan visited the University Electronics Science and Technology of China (UESTC). The visit was part of ongoing collaboration between C-RISE and the ERPHM group at UESTC. The goal of this particular trip was to strengthen ongoing research collaborations and to explore the areas of risk and reliability in offshore wind farms. During the visit, he delivered a series of guest lectures and met with faculty and graduate students.

Meetings with the faculty and graduate students proved to be incredibly fruitful. Dr. Khan met with Dr. Ming Zuo, Dr. Wei Guo, Dr. Zhiliang Liu, and Dr. A Xiao, all working in the area of reliability. It was agreed that in August 2019, C-RISE would jointly organize a conference entitled International Conference on Sensing, Diagnostics, Prognostics, and Control. He also met with PhD and Masters students working in the areas of fault detection, reliability modelling, maintenance planning, and offshore safety and risk engineering. Two students have expressed interest in attending Memorial as visiting students, and two other students have expressed interest in joining Memorial as Ph.D. students.

The trip offered opportunities to learn more about ongoing research programs and projects at UESTC. Going forward, C-RISE will work closely with ERPHM of UESTC to develop new methods for risk and reliability assessment of wind turbine and maintenance strategies for offshore wind farms.
