Disaster Chef Challenge

When an emergency happens people often have to evacuate their homes or they may find themselves with no power for extended periods of time. Those that are prepared have a well stocked emergency kit that contains a selection of yummy non-perishable foods and even possibly a propane camp stove and basic cooking supplies to get them through these tough times.

We are challenging all faculty, staff and students of Memorial University to create an original recipe for a main course dish with these non-perishable foods, basic cooking supplies and a camp stove. Recipes must be built using a set list of ingredients and cover all of the Canada Food Guide groups and can be prepared with only the supplies listed.

Three finalists will be selected from all recipes submitted and given the opportunity to prepare their recipe for a panel of judges at our Emergency Preparedness Fair on May 16, 2014. Finalists will be given the ingredients and the cooking supplies listed in their submitted recipe. The winner will receive a 16GB iPad with retina display and an emergency preparedness kit.

Recipes will be accepted from April 16 – May 5. Finalists will be notified by May 12, 2014. Participants must be able to compete on May 16 from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm. For more information including the official rules please click on the appropriate link to the left.
