Dining Etiquette Session

Dining Etiquette workshops are held in the Fall and Winter semesters. The next Dining Etiquette will be held on February 26, 2014 at 6:00 PM in the Junior Commons Room of R. Gushue Hall, Memorial University. Tickets are $25 for Students, $30 for Alumni and can be purchased online at https://crm.stuaff.mun.ca/events (go to bottom of page) until Feb 21.

These sessions are becoming increasingly popular across Canadian post-secondary campuses and an increasingly essential component of the job search and interview process, particularly if the job requires a certain standard of conduct with clients and superiors. Feeling comfortable interacting with people at a business luncheon can make or break an opportunity and leave a lasting impression.

The three-hour dining etiquette workshop aims to inform participants of the essential social skills and manners required in a formal dining setting. The event is hosted by a Memorial alumnus at Gushue Hall in the Junior Common Room and a three-course meal is served while students learn about etiquette and networking. Participants are asked to dress as though they were invited to an interview and seating will be assigned. Each table will represent a mix of employers, alumni, students, and representatives from Career Development & Experiential Learning.

Quotes from previous workshops:

"I learned a lot of interesting facts at this seminar and had a lot of fun. The opportunities to network and gain knowledge of the social etiquette of dining were much appreciated and will undoubtedly help me in my future endeavours."
--Student from the Faculty of Arts

"I learned a lot of new things that I will be able to take with me on my path to a business career. I strongly encourage all students, business or other, to participate in future workshops."
--Student from the Faculty of Business Administration

"I had a great time and really learned a lot about dining formally. It was also really interesting to speak with people from such diverse backgrounds and learn their points of view."
--Student from the Faculty of Science

"The best aspect was how friendly the alumni were, and how willing they were to share their experience with everyone at the table. I have already recommended this function to my friends."
--Student from the Faculty of Business Administration
