Program Schedule

Semesters

The program has two parts and will take place over the fall and winter semesters of the academic year. The following are the program components for semester:

Semester One (Fall 2024)

  • Program Orientation – 2-hour workshop in second week of semester
  • Five 3-hour workshops on topics related to leadership
  • Networking with established leaders from a variety of industries and organizations
  • One-to-one coaching to support individual leadership development

Additional Information on Networking

The facilitated sessions will provide an opportunity for program participants to network with each other. In addition, each session will have guests from various industries and organizations that can share their personal views and perspective on the topic being discussed.

Additional Information on Coaching

Coaches provide a safe, challenging development space for individuals to consider and strategize for the achievement of personal goals. Participants will be provided with an orientation to what coaching is, how to work with a coach, and the intention of coaching for this leadership program. Participants will be provided with a list of potential coaches from which students can choose their preferred coach. Each student will utilize three to five sessions (one session every 3-4 weeks) during the first semester of the program.

At the end of the Fall semester, each participant will complete an evaluation of their learning and coaching experience. This evaluation will capture the number of coaching sessions they attended along with the dates.

Semester Two (Winter 2025)

  • Leadership Project including attending an Orientation, development of a proposal for your project and completion of the project.
  • Monthly (total of 4) Workshops and Networking with established leaders from a variety of industries and organizations
  • One-to-one coaching to support individual leadership development

Additional Information on the Leadership Project

With the support and guidance of the program leaders, each participant will choose a leadership project. The project guidelines (to be developed) will be introduced during the Fall semester orientation and will be integrated into the ongoing learning sessions held throughout the Fall.

At the beginning of the Winter Semester, participants will attend a 1-hour Leadership Application Project orientation and will submit a project proposal (due January 15, 2025) for approval by the program coordinator. Leadership projects will be approved by January 22, 2025.

The goal of this leadership application project is to further enhance each participant’s leadership skills and apply those skills to a real-world scenario (e.g. a volunteer role or organization). The project will focus on applying learnings and experience from one or more of the sessions from the Fall semester to an existing leadership role the participant holds and/or how they might apply those learnings to a future role. (Note: The Leadership Application Project may not be used to receive academic credit).

Additional Information on Monthly Workshops and Networking

Participants will attend four 1-hour monthly workshops that will focus on leadership topics and will include networking with established leaders from a variety of industries and organizations. The content of these workshops will be determined in consultation with program participants, Student Life and the Advisory Committee.

Additional Information on Coaching:

One-to-one coaching to support individual leadership development and leadership project implementation. Similar to the Fall semester, participants will have between three and five 1-hour sessions with their coach. At the end of the Winter semester, each participant will complete an evaluation of their learning and coaching experience. This evaluation will capture the number of coaching sessions they attended along with the dates.
