Registering at the Centre
New students
New students with disabilities, or those with short-term illnesses
and injuries (e.g., a broken leg/arm or recovering from surgery),
who require an accommodation at the St. John's campus should
arrange to meet with Ruth North, Student Affairs Officer, at least
six-to-eight weeks before classes commence (i.e., in the case of
students with disabilites). If students discover that they require
accommodations or services once they are attending Memorial, they
should contact the Centre as soon as possible to arrange an
appointment.
At the beginning of the semester, students should identify
themselves to staff at the Centre who can then prepare the
Test/Exam & Classroom Accommodation Forms for their professors.
See below for more information on the Test/Exam & Classroom
Accommodation Form.
Returning students
Students already registered at the Centre should identify
themselves to the Centre at the beginning of every semester if they
are requesting accommodations. Staff can then prepare the Test/Exam
& Classroom Accommodation Forms for their professors. See below
for more information on the Test/Exam & Classroom Accommodation
Form.
Test/Exam & Classroom Accommodation Form
All requests for academic (testing) accommodation must be based on
documented need. It is the responsibility of the individual
requesting an academic accommodation to provide the necessary
documentation
to the Blundon Centre.
The Test/Exam & Classroom Accommodation Form outlines the accommodations that are recommended for the student that semester. Blundon Centre staff will prepare a form for each course the student is requesting an accommodation in that semester. They will consult with students themselves as to the most appropriate accommodations in their specific cases (i.e., the accommodations requested in particular courses could vary depending on the method of evaluation used by course instructor(s).
Once the student signs the form(s), they are asked to deliver them to their professors. Students are strongly encouraged to meet with their professors, lab personnel, etc., at the beginning of the semester to discuss the arrangements outlined on the form.
