On-Campus Transportation

Memorial University of Newfoundland, in conjunction with the St. John's PTS (Para-Transit System), provides on-campus transportation for faculty, staff, students, alumni, pensioners and visitors with disabilities.

Parking

Most on-campus parking is by permit. Some metered areas are available. Persons who require special consideration for parking at the main campus in St. John's should make requests in writing to the assistant manager of Traffic and Parking when submitting their application form. Similar requests should be directed to the Technical Services Office at the Marine Institute and the Office of Student Affairs and Services at Grenfell Campus. Every effort will be made by the university to accommodate such requests. Medical verification may be required.

Telecommunication Device for the Deaf (TTY)

A TTY is available at the Blundon Centre by calling (709) 737-4763. Twenty-four hour TTY service is available from Campus Enforcement and Patrol by calling (709) 737-7906.

Facilities

Some rooms in the older buildings have narrow entrances; access may be difficult for larger wheelchairs. The w/c symbol is not present on all the doors of accessible washrooms in the older buildings. Classrooms and laboratories are generally accessible. Modifications may be needed to accommodate individual needs (e.g., accessible desks or tables for wheelchair users or increased illumination for persons with visual impairments). Students with disabilities are encouraged to view the facilities they will be using prior to each semester and determine if changes are necessary. At least four to six weeks' prior notice is recommended to ensure a timely start to the semester.

Requests for modifications at the main campus in St. John's should be immediately directed to the Blundon Centre. Requests at the Marine Institute and Grenfell Campus should be immediatly refered to the Office of Student Affairs and Services at those campuses. Every effort will be made by the university to accommodate such requests.

Elevators, Lifts and Automatic Doors

Keys or switches are required for many of the mini-elevators, chair lifts and automatic doors on the main campus in St. John's. They can be obtained at the Blundon Centre (709) 737-2156: voice or (709) 737-4763: TTY. The key to the elevator in Hatcher House residence is available at the Office of Student Housing and Food Services (709) 737-7590, Room 312.
