Office of Professional Development

Located on the second floor of the Health Sciences Centre, the Office of Professional Development (OPD) is a CACME accredited service unit within the Faculty of Medicine. To meet its mission to provide innovative continuing professional development (CPD) to enhance and maintain competencies of health care providers, faculty and students and improve public health, the Office of Professional Development provides a range of CPD services to the Faculty of Medicine. These core services include educational and IT consulting, program design, development, accreditation, administration and delivery support, and evaluation. Ancillary services include scholarly research, meeting spaces, web development, and media development.
Working with faculty members, partners in the provincial healthcare system and with a range of healthcare and university partners nationally, the OPD provides:

  • Online, blended, and onsite CPD programming
  • Accreditation services (Mainpro, Maintenance of Certification)
  • Program registration and administration
  • Events and conference management services
  • Needs assessment
  • Program evaluation
  • Scholarly research on CPD

The Faculty of Medicine has a formal policy outlining a centralized and streamlined process for the coordination and accreditation of CME/CPD programs offered by the Faculty of Medicine. With the exception of Grand Rounds activities, all forms of accredited CME/CPD activities endorsed by the Faculty of Medicine, whether held on or off campus, must be developed in collaboration with the Office of Professional Development.
