Q: Can I support a special fund for students directly impacted by COVID-19?
A:
Yes. We have emergency funds for both graduate and undergraduate students. Currently they are focused on supporting students who are adversely affected by COVID-19. Not unlike many others in our society, we have a number of students who are in jeopardy due to unexpected costs and challenges. We are trying to prioritize and mitigate a range of different situations, including: student parents who are now unable to support their families due to job loss, individuals with extenuating medical conditions and those who face housing and/or food insecurity due to this crisis.

When you visit our online giving form, the areas of designation are Undergraduate Student Emergency Funding and SGS Graduate Student Emergency Fund. Note that these are the first two options that appear on the form in the 'Area of Designation' dropdown box. You can support these funds now by donating online. To learn more about these emergency funds, please visit mun.ca/COVID_EmergencyStudentFunds.

Q: What is the status of the fund I have established or support? Has my scholarship/bursary/award already been awarded for 2019-20?
A:
Scholarships, bursaries and awards for the 2019-20 academic year have been awarded. We are actively planning and working through a normal schedule for awarding scholarships, bursaries and awards for 2020-21. At present, all in-person recognition ceremonies are postponed until further notice, with plans for virtual or other approaches to be determined by the various units responsible.

If you have a specific question about your fund(s), please reach out to the Development Officer you have been working with or feel free to contact: Executive Director, Dr. Penny Blackwood at pablackw@mun.ca or 709-691-5534; or Manager, Advancement Services and Operations, Michelle Kearsey at mmkearsey@mun.ca or 709-693-1194.

If you would like to make your annual gift for this year, you can still do so online at mun.ca/giveonline.
