Material Characterization

The facility has five instruments to cover for a wide range of applications.

  • Thermoanalytical techniques, such as Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), measure heat flow or weight change as a function of temperature and time in a controlled atmosphere (i.e. air or N2).
  • Adsorption, transmission or reflectance spectroscopy, such as FT-NIR and FT-IR, are employed to determine chemical interactions among functional groups.

All instruments are user run with training provided by research assistants and are available 24 hours per day, seven days per week. There is also a sample service for infrequent users.
