My name is Courtney Young and I graduated from the Northern Peninsula of Newfoundland. I am completing a Bachelor of Nursing degree at MUN School of Nursing. My name is John Eckert and I grew up in Kippens, Newfoundland. My interests include skiing, wrestling, and playing piano. Winning the Memorial University of Newfoundland Alumni Entrance Scholarship has greatly helped me pursue my studies in Business Administration. My goal is to one day become a Human Resource Manager.

What this means to her:

This prestigious award is indeed my greatest accomplishment to date and has allowed me to focus on my studies without the worry of financial burdens.

What the scholarship means to her: I am currently working on a biochemistry major and plan to attend medical school as of now, but the plans could easily change. It put into perspective the importance of the diligent and hard work I had done in my first 13 years of schooling and motivated me immensely to thrive for success in the years to come. This award was no doubt the greatest achievement I have ever had.

This scholarship is made possible by a donation from the Memorial University of Newfoundland Alumni Association. The scholarship is valued at $5,000.00 per year and is renewable to a maximum of an additional four years provided first class and scholarship standing are maintained. The scholarship is tenable in all undergraduate programs at this University.

Nadine Hewitt

Program of Study: Bsc. Biochemistry/Chemistry

What this scholarship meant to her: I am working on a Biochemistry major with a minor in Chemistry. I plan on completing my honours and then applying to Memorial’s medical school. This scholarship has allowed me to spend more time studying and volunteering without the pressure of a part-time job. It took a lot of hard work to be awarded this scholarship; however, it makes my future dreams easier to achieve.

Kilah Ivany

Program of Study: Engineering

What this award meant to her: My award was one of the determining factors of why I chose MUN. It has been a significant contribution toward my education. Given a large portion of my undergraduate degree will be paid for, it will make it much easier for me if I decide to pursue my masters.

 

 

Julia Curtis

Program: Joint Honours BSc. Biochemistry and Behavioural Neuroscience

What this award meant to her: I look forward to completing a double major and then joint honours in Biochemistry and Behavioural Neuroscience. I hope to become a Child Psychiatrist. For me, receiving this award was extremely exciting. It has shown me that trying and hard work can lead to success.

 

Hilary Coffey

Program: BSc. Biochemistry

What this award meant to her: This year I am entering Biochemistry. The entrance scholarship was a deciding factor in my decision to attend MUN. It has meant that I will be able to go through my undergraduate degree without having to worry about student loans or having to work part time to pay for school.
