Florian Villaumé is a bilingual entrepreneurial innovator who creates and grows impact-oriented initiatives. Florian holds a Bachelor in Engineering, a Master in Science and is currently completing a Graduate Degree in Business Administration.
Florian has been the Director of the Memorial Centre for Entrepreneurship (MCE) since 2016. Under his leadership, MCE grew from an initial intake of 20 students to more than 300 annually in just over three years. MCE supported companies have attracted $12.8 million in private financing in just four years. In 2019, the MCE was recognized as one of the top five emerging entrepreneurship Centres in the world and in 2020 Florian was named to Atlantic Business Magazine’s 2020 list of Top 50 CEOs in Atlantic Canada.
Florian also has nine years of experience in an international incubator of systemic innovations, Engineers Without Borders Canada, that seeks to address the crucial causes of poverty and inequality. Operating in Canada and across sub-Saharan Africa, Florian co-designed and co-managed five international programs and transformed them into influential programs. One of these programs was an $8 million program supporting small and medium enterprises to be ready for a $50 million investment fund. Three entrepreneurs he supported were officially recognized as leaders by former United States President Barack Obama in 2014 and 2015.
Florian lives in St. John’s with his wife, Pauline, and has two children, Steve and Nelson. He plays soccer regularly and enjoys life in St. John’s.
Jason is the Programs Catalyst for the Memorial Centre for Entrepreneurship. He started his first company at 15 years of age and has owned a company ever since. While a student at Memorial University Jason was the President of the forerunner of Enactus Memorial, ACE (the Association of Collegiate Entrepreneurs), and he had two entrepreneurial work terms at a time when this was not done. The company started on his second work term saw him hire a fellow student and begin a seven-year adventure where they raised significant capital and grew the company to 20+ staff within 14 months of graduating from Memorial. Jason has had more than a dozen companies, with many failures and several successes, including, a successful exit with one. His companies included selling comic books, ice cream and lottery tickets as well as providing seniors housing and care, financial products and other services. He has also started two technology companies that have taken him around the world. Several of Jason’s companies have been ‘bootstrapped’ while others have had multi-million dollar budgets. Throughout his career, he has raised more than $20,000,000 for his various companies.
Jason lives near St. John’s with his wife Krista and his two children Campbell and Jaxson. He loves basketball and travelling, having visited every continent except Antarctica (so far!).
Community and Marketing Coordinator
Elyse is the Community and Marketing Coordinator for the Memorial Centre for Entrepreneurship. She holds a bachelor of fine arts degree in theatre stagecraft from Memorial (Grenfell Campus) and is currently working on her master’s degree in library science and information management from the University of Western Ontario. Elyse is a coordinator of all things who has worked in various fields before finding herself at MCE using her entire bag of tricks to assist the entrepreneurs of Memorial.
Elyse started her professional career in theatre stagecraft and worked as a stage manager for many theatre companies throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. She transitioned her skills into film work and for three seasons held the role of assistant production coordinator for CBC’s Republic of Doyle. She then moved into the position of production coordinator for a local production and marketing company coordinating television commercials, web videos, and radio.
