This course is designed to equip leaders, changemakers, and innovators with the skills to meaningfully assess and communicate the value of their work. Whether new to the world of social enterprise and impact or looking to deepen existing strategies, participants will gain an accessible and engaging introduction to the key concepts and tools behind effective impact measurement.
The course explores how to move beyond outputs and articulate the true outcomes of an initiative—social, environmental, and economic—using internationally recognized frameworks and participatory approaches. Combining hands-on activities, collaborative learning, and case-based exploration, the session helps participants connect the dots between mission, action, and impact.
Through dynamic discussion, team-based exercises, and practical templates, participants will learn how to design a clear Logic Model that links vision and mission to measurable results. The course covers how to identify meaningful indicators, support informed decision-making, and develop an Impact Measurement Framework (IMF) tailored to specific goals and organizational capacity. Participants will also explore ways to leverage impact data to enhance storytelling, refine strategy, and build trust with funders, stakeholders, and communities. The course concludes with an introduction to a range of impact measurement tools and software adaptable to organizations of any size.

Instructor(s)

Dr. Gillian Morrissey
Gillian guides the activities of the Centre for Social Enterprise as it strives to cultivate a new generation of socially-minded business leaders, strengthen social enterprise and drive social innovation in Newfoundland and Labrador.
She previously worked as the educational support co-ordinator for Memorial’s master of business administration in social enterprise and entrepreneurship (MBA-SEE), and is a social entrepreneur in her own right, having founded and managed two community music ventures in St. John’s: Project Grace and the Bethany Centre for Arts and Community.
Gillian holds a doctorate of musical arts from the University of Toronto, an artist diploma from the Royal College of Music (London, U.K.), a master of music from Memorial and a bachelor of music from the University of Ottawa.
She is a sessional lecturer in both the Faculty of Business Administration and School of Music at Memorial, and maintains a busy freelance career as both performer and pedagogue. Dr. Morrissey has performed in concert halls around the world, and researches on topics surrounding contemporary music practices and the intersection of community, music-making and social innovation.
