Data Access

We recognize that your research data is extremely important, and we take several steps to ensure it is properly secured.

All access to C-CART instrumentation is through our Windows domain, to which only registered users are granted access. For this reason, access to data is restricted to the user who collected it, by default.

Data for most of our instruments are automatically saved on our data server, while the remainder are backed up to this server nightly. This data server is then backed up to a separate location. Note that our data server is not externally visible, and thus can only be accessed from within the MUN firewall (and not on STU network).

Despite our preventative measures to protect against data loss, accidents can still happen. We advise all users to regularly copy their data to their personal computer using the method described below. Please note that C-CART has a strict "no USB key" policy.

Accessing Data from Windows 7

3. Select "Reconnect at logon" and "Connect using different credentials", then click "Finish".

4. In the new Windows Security window, enter your user name as

"CCCSLABS\username"

where "username" is your MUN login name (omit quotes).
5. Do not select "Remember my credentials" unless you are the only person using your computer.
6. Enter your MUN password, then click OK. (Note: If you are working at a computer that is shared among several users, DO NOT FORGET to disconnect the network connection when you are done!)
7. Open Windows Explorer, select "Computer" in the sidebar, then the network drive under "Network Location".
8. Right-click on the network drive and select "Disconnect".

Accessing Data from Windows 10

7. In the new Windows Security window, enter your user name as

"CCCSLABS\username"

where "username" is your MUN login name (omit quotes).
8. Do not select "Remember my credentials" unless you are the only person using your computer.
9. Enter your MUN password, then click OK. (Note: If you are working at a computer that is shared among several users, DO NOT FORGET to disconnect the network connection when you are done!)

Accessing Data from OS X (Mac)

1. In Finder, in the Go menu, select Connect to server...
2. In Server Address, enter

"smb://armarium.creait.mun.ca/ccart" (omit quotes)

3. Enter your user name as

"CCCSLABS\username"

where "username" is your MUN login name (omit quotes).
4. This should open the DATA folder in Finder.

In any case, if you are using a shared computer, remember to disconnect the network connection when you are done!
