Q. I already registered to attend the Postponed Convocation Celebrations but I made a mistake or I need to change something on my form. Who do I contact?

A. Please send an email to convocation@mun.ca describing the change(s) you need to make.

Q. Registration is now closed and I forgot to register. What do I do?

A. Send an e-mail by Monday, June 20, to convocation@mun.ca for instructions. Please note that late registration may result in missing the printing deadline to have your name included in the Convocation program/booklet.

Q. I forgot to order academic dress. Can I order it now and what does it cost?

A. Limited rental of academic dress will be available on-site at a cost of $80, payable in cash, and will be available one hour prior to the start of each session. The appropriate hood color cannot be guaranteed for on-site/late rentals.

Q. When and where do I pick up and return my academic dress?

A. Academic dress will be available one hour prior to the beginning of each session and should be returned to the vendor on-site, following photographs with family (by 1 p.m. after the morning session; by 6 p.m. after the afternoon session). Those wishing to have photos taken outside of this designated timeframe should complete the online gown rental form with the Campus Bookstore at Memorial University to make arrangements to borrow academic dress for this purpose.

Q. What is the duration of each session?

A. Please allow for approximately two hours from the start time to the end of each session.

Q. Will there be professional photos taken during the Postponed Convocation Celebrations?

A. Yes. After you cross the stage, there will be an area designated for professional photos taken by Grad Images. There will also be allocated space for graduates and their families to take their own personal photos after the celebration.

Q. My guests and I didn’t receive a ticket for the Postponed Convocation Celebrations.

  • Graduates – Arrive at Gate 5 (near main entrance) of the Mary Brown’s Centre, one hour in advance and no later than 30 minutes in advance of your session. Upon arrival, you will receive your ticket, stage card, gown, hood and cap. Graduates will be seated in order of their degree and last name.
  • Guests – Arrive at Gate 1 (main entrance) of the Mary Brown’s Centre one hour in advance of the session. General seating is on a first come, first served basis. Up to five guest seats per graduate are guaranteed.

Q. How can I request additional guest tickets?

A. Please email convocation@mun.ca to request additional guest tickets.

Q. When and at what entrance do we arrive at the venue?

Q. What arrangements have been made for those requiring accessibility accommodations or assistance, including parking and access to the Mary Brown’s Centre?

A. Individuals requiring accessibility support should enter the Mary Brown’s Centre via Gate 2. Staff will be on-site to direct graduates and guests appropriately. Various parking locations offer accessible parking. Drop-off is available at the Mary Brown’s Centre layby next to the ramp leading to Gate 2.

Q. What do I need to bring with me on the day of Convocation?

  • Graduates will receive their ticket, stage card, gown, hood, cap and mask upon arrival at the venue and should minimize bringing personal belongings.
  • You should have your Gaspard rental ID or confirmation with you.
  • You may keep your mobile phone with you, however you will be responsible for its security.
  • You are encouraged to leave bags, purses, coats and other valuables at home or with family members.
  • Memorial University and the hosting venue are not responsible for securing personal items.

Q. Is there a coat check?

A. To avoid congestion, there will be no coat check service. Should there be inclement weather, a coat rack will be available to graduates to hang their outerwear; guests can take their coats to their seats.

Q. What time should I arrive for my session?

A. Graduates should arrive one hour prior to the ceremony and not less than 30 minutes prior.

Q. Where do I park?

A. Limited parking is available in the surrounding area of the Mary Brown’s Centre as follows:

  • Various parking locations offer accessible parking. Drop-off is available at the Mary Brown’s Centre layby next to the ramp leading to Gate 2.
  • Pay per use underground parking is available under the Delta St. John’s (approximately $15) and Cabot Place (approximately $7).
  • Pay by the hour parking is available at 360 Water Street.
  • PayByPhone parking is available in the downtown St. John’s area from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. weekdays. Please refer to instructions on the City of St. John’s website on downloading the PayByPhone app.

Q. Will the Postponed Convocation Celebrations be livestreamed for guests who cannot attend in person?

A. Yes, we will livestream each session for viewers at home. The livestream link will be available on the MUN homepage on the day and time of each session.

Q. Do I need to show my VaxPass?

A. In accordance with public health guidelines, vaccine passports are no longer required.

Q. Are masks required?

A. While masks are not required, they are recommended while inside the venue. A Memorial University mask will be provided to graduates.

Q. Are there affordable overnight accommodations available for me, my family and friends who are travelling to attend?

A. St. John’s: Student Residences and Ancillary Operations is pleased to offer graduates and their families/guests affordable overnight accommodations in residence during Convocation. Convocation Housing will be located in Macpherson College on St. John’s Campus.
