Building from memory: Recreating the Danger Tree
May 1
As part of Memorial University’s 100th anniversary, the university is reflecting on its founding purpose as a living memorial to the Newfoundlanders and Labradorians who served during the First World War. This year also marks the 110th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme at Beaumont-Hamel, one of the most significant and tragic moments in our province’s history.
For generations, the Danger Tree has been one of the most powerful reminders of the First World War.
The Memorial University community is invited to a rare opportunity to see a carefully crafted replica of the Danger Tree before it journeys to its permanent home at the Beaumont-Hamel Newfoundland Memorial in France. The replica was created by Memorial’s Department of Technical Services, in partnership with Veterans Affairs Canada. More information about the project can be found in the Gazette.
Join us at the Queen Elizabeth II Library on Memorial’s St. John’s campus on May 1 at 11 a.m. The replica will also be on display for viewing on May 1 from 12-8 p.m.

Join us for a special Enactus Memorial Alumni Reunion, bringing together graduates from the Enactus, SIFE, and ACE programs at Memorial University. This event celebrates the legacy of student entrepreneurship, innovation and impact at Memorial while reconnecting alumni with the vibrant community they helped build. Guests will have the opportunity to view this year’s Enactus Memorial presentation, engage with the current team, and take part in conversations that spark new ideas to solve real‑world challenges.
Proceeds from the event will directly support Enactus Memorial’s ongoing and future project work.
If you have any photos, videos or content you would like to see showcased at this event, please email: enactusmemorialnl@gmail.com
