Side Hustle Showcase - Summer Edition Jul. 10
Memorial’s Centre for Entrepreneurship (MCE) is turning up the heat with a special summer edition of the student pop-up market! You don’t want to miss the Side Hustle Showcase, featuring Memorial University students who are building businesses, launching creative projects, and growing their side hustles. Browse booths with everything from custom clothing and handmade jewellery to baked goods, artwork, tech services, and more.

Dragon Boat Festival Jul. 19
Memorial University Libraries is entering a team in the Avalon Dragons Paddle in Paradise Dragon Boat Festival, set for Saturday, July 19th, 2025 at Octagon Pond in Paradise, NL (alternate weather date is July 20th). The “Memorial University Library Launchers” is a team of 18 paddlers raising money to support the Avalon Dragons, a breast cancer survivor team, as they promote the role that an active lifestyle can play in preventing complications and reoccurrence of breast cancer. The team also proudly celebrates the 100th anniversary of the founding of Memorial University.

Science on the Street Jul. 26
Happening at the Downtown Pedestrian Mall in St. John's. Join Botanical Garden, Geo Center, Let’s Talk Science and more, as we animate the DPM with SCIENCE! Think of this as an interactive science fair, with displays from a number of local organizations and university academic units, all focused on providing STEM education. Booths will have free, interactive, and engaging activities for all ages, and will be located at various points along the Mall.
Location: Downtown Pedestrian Mall (DPM) in St. John's Time: 12:00 P.M. - 4:00 P.M.

The Holocaust Survivor Memoirs Program launches Lament by Moishe Kantorowitz Sept. 18
A vivid and heart-wrenching memoir by former Newfoundland resident and Holocaust survivor Moishe Kantorowitz (1923–2008). Kantorowitz was born in the town of Shershev, Poland (now Šarašova, Belarus) and survived Auschwitz-Birkenau and Mauthausen. After immigrating to Canada, he moved to St. John’s in 1956 and became a travelling salesman. Kantorowitz was active in the Jewish community in St. John’s, and in 1995, he received an honorary degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland for his work in the field of Holocaust education.
Refreshments will be served. Speakers will be announced soon.
Guests will receive a complimentary copy of the memoir.

3rd annual Forum on Indigenization and Reconciliation at Memorial (FIRM)
Oct. 6-9
Faculty, staff and students on all campuses are invited to participate in this internal forum and engage with the Office of Indigenous Affairs in conversations around the Strategic Framework for Indigenization (SFI), our respective roles in reconciliation, and some of the work that has been underway here at Memorial in years past, currently, and plans for moving forward with this important work.
This event provides a platform to engage the university community on its progress in meeting recommendations in the SFI, and an opportunity to bring Indigenous ways of learning, knowing and being into university spaces and practices.

100 Years of Careers will celebrate the contributions of Memorial and the Marine Institute to the rich history of marine careers in Newfoundland and Labrador. This event will be held at the Marine Institute and invite students from grades 10, 11 and 12 from across the province to attend. It will also be an informative and engaging event for parents, guidance counselors and career teachers. By opening our doors to the community, we will create better awareness of marine careers while sharing the auspicious 60-year history of the Marine Institute. Historical booths will highlight the history of the fishery, and our student guests will be introduced to the roles marine careers will play in shaping the technological advancements and environmental concerns that will secure a sustainable future.
