The PSYCHOLOGY SOCIETY is a student-run organization. For up to date news and events hosted by the Psychology Society, LIKE us on Facebook!

Fundraising activities allow the society to:

  • Host socials with psychology professors
  • Organize graduation festivities
  • Plan psychology-related events
  • Donate funds for non-profit organizations

The Psychology Society's goals are to raise awareness about mental health, engage students in the field of psychology, and to foster a positive and encouraging learning environment for students. These goals are accomplished by:

  • Increasing awareness about mental health and decreasing the stigma surrounding mental health issues.
  • Giving back to mental health issues in the community through fundraising.
  • Catering to students at Grenfell Campus through fun events and fundraisers.

The Psychology Society meets in the Dem Room once a week. We are always looking for new members and volunteers! It’s a great way to meet other students, interact with professors, and get involved in campus life.

The Dem Room (AS 348) is a meeting place for all psychology students. Feel free to use this space to:

  • Work on your courses
  • Use the computers and other psychology resources
  • Socialize / de-stress with other psychology students
  • Stay informed by reading relevant notices posted on dem room boards

Naomi Butt (President)

Hello, my name is Naomi Butt, and I am the president of Psych society this year! I’m super excited about the opportunity to be a part of the society again, and I am eager to work with all members of the psych department to plan fun activities and be an advocate for mental health resources. I am from a small town in Labrador and I’m completing my BA with a major in Psychology and a minor in English. One of my favorite things about psychology is learning about people and factors that contribute to why they are the way they are. My hobbies are hiking, playing sports, cooking, and reading. The society is an excellent way to get involved on campus, meet people with similar interests and help to support some great causes! Please reach out if you have any questions.

Soumya Jain (Vice-President)

Hey folks, My name is Soumya Jain and I am a fourth year majoring in Psychology (Honours) with a minor in Social/Cultural Studies. I am the Vice-President Executive of the Psych Society! This is my first semester with this society and I'm looking forward to making the most out of this semester! I have several interests and hobbies! Some of them are playing my uke, talking (mostly listening) and getting to know my peers and other students on campus, volunteering for events and organizations, and listening to podcasts and audiobooks. The core reason for me choosing Psychology as a field of study over everything else was to understand myself better and be accepting of life as it is. In future, I can see myself working in a university setting as a Counselor/Psychotherapist. But I'm also open to other opportunities that I might find along the way! My biggest suggestion for any university student would be to get involved in activities as much as possible. Psych Society is like a treasure for those aspiring to work in this field or any other related field in the future. Make the most out of your semester! If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions, or need someone to talk to, reach out to me. I would love to help you out!

Brandon Campbell (Secretary)

Hey! My name is Brandon Campbell. I was born and raised in Newfoundland and grew up in Deer Lake. I currently am the secretary for the 2022-2023 executive committee. I am in my fourth year of B.A with a major in Psychology and a minor in Sociology. Bittersweetly, this is my first time on the committee and likely my last! However, I still spend much of my time in the Den Room between classes. So, I am super excited for everything to kick off! Whenever I am not on Campus, I spend time with my friends! I have a great group of friends that I play trivia with on the weekends. I also like to watch movies and have re-established a love for reading books! Lastly, I am happy I chose to major in Psychology due to the versatility and transferable skills I’ve learned. If you have any questions regarding our society! I am happy to assist!

Helena Mccarthy (Treasurer)

Hi everyone! I’m Helena McCarthy and I’m the treasurer for the psych society this year. I’m in my fourth year of my BSc (Hons) Psychology and I’m hoping to do speech-language pathology after my undergrad! This is my second year on the exec so I’m so excited to get the share this experience with the new and old members. When I have some down time, I really love working out and trying to be active, as well as baking! I encourage everyone to get involved in the society as it’s a great way to get more involved with your school while putting off fun events! I hope everyone has a great year!

Susan Graham (Social Media Representative)

Hi everyone! My name is Susan Graham, and I am one of the social media representatives this year. I am currently in my fourth year of psychology (BSc. Hons). This is my first year being a part of the psych society executive. However last year, I participated by going to the weekly meetings. I am really looking forward to being more involved this year! Some of my interests and hobbies include anything plant related and hiking, especially with my dog and new puppy! I am really looking forward to being a part of the psych society this year and meeting new people.

Kyra Thompson (Social Media Representative)

Hey everyone! My name is Kyra Thompson, I’m a third-year psych student and I’m one of the social media reps for the society! Last year I participated in the society by going to the weekly meetings, and this year I’m so happy to be a part of the exec team! Some of my hobbies include all things plant related, as well and beauty and fashion. My goals for the future are to further my education in psychology, with my end career goal of being a practicing clinical psychologist, as well as teach! The psych society is a fantastic way to get involved with the faculty and staff (which is helpful in terms of recommendations for grad school if you’re considering that!), as well as insert yourself into the mental health advocacy community and make connections. I hope you all love psych as much as I do, and I can’t wait to see what the society brings this year!
