News Release

REF NO.: 38

SUBJECT: Enactus Memorial to launch HeartStarter project

DATE: February 6, 2020

Note to editors

Enactus Memorial will launch HeartStarter, on Friday, Feb. 7, at 11 a.m. in the RBC Atrium at the Faculty of Business Administration on Memorial’s St. John’s campus.

HeartStarter blends technology with community impact by using drones to deliver life-saving automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to people experiencing cardiac arrest who don’t have immediate access to medical care.

The group of Memorial University undergraduate students also aims to use the project to impact public health through education about heart disease and by advocating for a provincial AED registry.

Jonathan Kirby, manager, government relations and health promotion, Heart & Stroke Foundation, and Sarah Stoodley, member, House of Assembly (Mount Scio), are expected to speak at the event as well as members of Enactus Memorial.

Please note: If there is a campus closure due to weather on Friday, Feb. 7, this event will be rescheduled to a later date.
