SUBJECT: Launch of Dr. Nigel Rusted diaries

DATE: June 19, 2019

Note to editors

Memorial University will launch the digitized diaries of Dr. Nigel Rusted on Thursday, June 20.

A member of the inaugural class of Memorial University College in 1925, Dr. Rusted kept a daily diary from Jan. 1, 1925, to 2012.

His notebooks contain retrospective essays that he drew on for publications and interviews. After his passing, his family donated the diaries, photos and other personal items related to his passion for medicine in Newfoundland and Labrador to the Faculty of Medicine’s Founders’ Archive.

A Digital Archives Initiative, these documents are now available online for anyone to access.

Participants in the event include Dr. Margaret Steele, dean of medicine; Dr. Jim Connor, John Clinch professor of medical humanities and history of medicine; and Stephanie Harlick, archivist. Members of the Rusted family will be in attendance.

The event will begin at 11 a.m. at the Faculty of Medicine, on the fifth floor in room 5M101.

Media representatives are invited to attend.
