SUBJECT: Canadian Ferries Association and Marine Institute to establish industrial research chair

The Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University and the Canadian Ferries Association will announce the creation of a Industrial Research Chair for Marine Passenger Transportation Technology on Wednesday, May 22, in the Industry Seminar Room, Marine Institute, 155 Ridge Rd. at 1 p.m.
Once selected, the new chair will facilitate research related to current and new technologies and identify specific technologies that could enhance operations for marine passenger transportation, specifically in the areas of efficient propulsion systems, robotics and autonomous systems, big (marine) data and underwater radiated noises.
The research will take a multi-year approach and will include stakeholders in the marine industry and faculty from the Marine Institute.
