SUBJECT: PSA: Gala concert celebrates major endowment

DATE: February 25, 2015

A special Faculty Gala Concert on Friday, Feb. 27, will pay tribute to the single largest bequest to Memorial University’s School of Music.

The evening will honour the establishment of the Procunier Family Scholarships in Music, four full-tuition scholarships made possible by an endowment from the estate of Edwin R. Procunier, a Newfoundlander, opera aficionado and art collector who passed away in 2011. In addition to his bequest to the School of Music, Mr. Procunier left a sizable collection of famous artwork to Newfoundland and Labrador.

Faculty artists will perform a varied and entertaining program including classical works by Brahms and Taffanel, new works by Bill Brennan and Andrew Staniland and a selection of Newfoundland and Labrador folksongs arranged by D.F. Cook.

The gala begins at 7:30 p.m. in the D.F. Cook Recital Hall on the St. John’s campus. Tickets are $20/$15 (students and seniors) and are on sale at the door, ticketpro.ca, the Travel Bug on Water Street and at The Attic in the University Centre.
