DATE: September 19, 2014

Note to editors:

MI Ocean Net, in co-operation with the 21st Annual Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup, will be holding a beach cleanup at the Portugal Cove-St. Philips marina on Saturday, Sept. 20, at 9:30 a.m.

This family event will include a scavenger hunt, beach art, a graffiti corner and trivia games as well as music and refreshments. Children are encouraged to come dressed as their favourite superhero with a chance to win prizes.

Participants are reminded to dress for the weather and bring a reusable water bottle. MI Ocean Net will provide garbage bags and gloves; however, participants are encouraged to bring along their own reusable gloves.

In 2002 the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup emerged as a national program, providing all Canadians the opportunity to make a difference in their local communities. Today, it is recognized as one of the largest direct action conservation programs, as well as the most significant contributor to the International Coastal Cleanup in Canada.  For more information on the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup, please visit www.shorelinecleanup.ca.
