SUBJECT: Memorial University to host TD Discovery Days

DATE: May 8, 2015

Note to editors:

Memorial University will host the TD Discovery Days for high school students on Monday, May 11, at the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s.

Throughout the day, students from more than 20 schools throughout the province will have an opportunity to explore career options in the health-care sector and in some cases get hands-on experience. The workshops will include visiting the Faculty of Medicine’s Clinical Learning and Simulation Centre, using an electron microscope to understand the make up of a cell and hearing about career opportunities in nursing, pharmacy, social work and more.

At 9:45 a.m., students will hear from keynote speaker Dr. Nikhil Joshi, a training physician in internal medicine and a graduate of Memorial University. In September 2013, Dr. Joshi was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. He is also known as Dr. C. from the CBC Radio show that covered his journey through cancer as a patient, which won the gold medal award for the World’s Best Radio in 2014 in the health documentary category.
