SUBJECT: Tenth annual MI Ocean Net Day rescheduled

DATE: September 30, 2013

MI Ocean Net, an initiative of the Marine Institute of Memorial University of Newfoundland, will be celebrating its 10th annual Ocean Net Day at Topsail Beach on Tuesday, Oct. 1, from 9:30 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Media and the general public are invited to attend this celebration.
Grade 4 students and teachers from St. George’s Elementary and Paradise Elementary Schools will take part in a cleanup of Topsail Beach.
Shirts and a barbecue for volunteers and participants will be provided for their involvement. Educational displays, the Ocean Science Centres touch tank, activities, entertainment, face painting and prizes will also be part of the celebration.
In 2004, Ocean Net Day was proclaimed to occur annually on the third Friday in September by Danny Williams, former premier of Newfoundland and Labrador. The event celebrates the legacy of proactive, positive and environmental “education by action” initiated by Ocean Net with its founding in 1997 and continued throughout the province in the past seven years through the efforts of its network of volunteers and the people of the province.
