SUBJECT: PSA: Memorial University's Monte Carlo Charity Gala looking for applicants

DATE: May 12, 2014

Planning for the 2014 Memorial University Monte Carlo Charity Gala is underway and the medical students organizing the event are looking for applications from charities who would like to share in the proceeds.
The deadline to apply is Friday, May 30, and the application can be found on the website, munmontecarlo.ca.
Applications must be emailed to charityselection@munmed.ca. The charity selection committee is looking for registered Newfoundland and Labrador charities that serve the province and have not received money from Monte Carlo in the last five years.
In previous years, upwards of $20,000 has been raised for each selected charity. Previous charities chosen include Brighter Futures, Camp Delight and the Single Parent Association of Newfoundland & Labrador.
Monte Carlo began in 1977 to raise money for a classmate who sustained a spinal cord injury in a diving accident that left him quadriplegic. Since that first fundraiser, it has evolved into a major annual charity fundraiser that involves the community at large and raises funds for several deserving local charities. Most medical students in their first two years of study participate in organizing and supporting the gala.
Different charities are selected each year, and the funds are raised through donations, casino-style games, live and silent auctions, and much more.
