SUBJECT: PSA: Canadian Institutes of Health Research funding discussion forum in Labrador on infant feeding

DATE: May 5, 2014

Members of the public and media are invited to attend a Café Scientifique event in Labrador, titled Breaking the Ice: Let’s Talk About Infant Feeding.
Researchers from Memorial University will meet with members of the public in Happy Valley-Goose Bay to discuss the latest research on breastfeeding, including health benefits for mothers and children and ways to strengthen supports for breastfeeding families within the community.
Dr. Laurie Twells, associate professor with the School of Pharmacy and Faculty of Medicine; Dr. Leigh Anne Newhook, pediatrician and associate professor with the Faculty of Medicine; and Janet Murphy Goodridge, provincial breastfeeding consultant and chair of the Baby-Friendly Council of Newfoundland and Labrador, will conduct short information sessions on current research and provincial support initiatives. The event is designed to be an informal, knowledge-sharing discussion where researchers and interested community members can meet in a relaxed, social setting. It is not a poster presentation or lecture.
Funding for this session has been provided through the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and is being organized by Memorial University and the Baby-Friendly Council of Newfoundland and Labrador. The event is scheduled to take place at the Hotel North 2 from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7.
All members of the public are invited to attend. Refreshments will be served.
