SUBJECT: Memorial University announces $2.3 million funding for R&D projects related to harsh and Arctic environment

Dr. Gary Kachanoski, president and vice-chancellor, Memorial University, will host an announcement of a $2.3 million investment in Memorial University-led R&D projects to address opportunities and challenges related to harsh and Arctic environments.
The announcement will take place in the atrium of the Bruneau Centre for Research and Innovation at Memorial's St. John's campus on Tuesday, July 8, at 12:30 p.m.
Dr. Kachanoski will be joined by Dr. Ray Gosine, associate vice-president (research); Glenn Janes, chief executive officer, Research & Development Corporation; and Susan Sullivan, minister, Innovation, Business and Rural Development, minister responsible for the Research & Development Corporation, and minister responsible for Francophone Affairs.
Dr. Christina Bottaro, from Memorial University, will speak briefly about a project to develop a sensing system for detecting and tracking oil in marine waters in harsh climates. Dr. Bottaro's project is one of 17 Memorial-led research projects that will benefit from the investment.
