SUBJECT: Ladies Learning Code launches Newfoundland and Labrador chapter at Memorial University’s Genesis Centre

DATE: January 31, 2014

Ladies Learning Code is excited to launch its first chapter in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Today, 30 women and men from varying backgrounds will gather at Memorial University’s Genesis Centre to learn HTML and CSS from an experienced instructor and volunteer mentors. The Introduction to HTML and CSS Workshop is the first in a series of workshops that will be held in the province. These workshops are oriented towards women but are open to anyone who wants to learn.
HTML and CSS are the backbone of all websites, and knowledge of them is a necessity for those interested in building websites, creating marketing emails or even blogging. Since its inception in 2011, Ladies Learning Code has held 160 workshops and events and reached more than 7,200 students.
“We are very happy to partner with Ladies Learning Code and be able to help deliver their services to women and girls in Newfoundland and Labrador,” said Michelle Simms, the Newfoundland and Labrador chapter lead and manager of business incubation services for the Genesis Centre. “Giving women the
opportunity to learn to code in such a unique and collaborative environment is something that we are proud to be a part of.”
Ladies Learning Code workshops aims for a 4:1 student-to-instructor ratio; members of the St. John’s technology community have volunteered to mentor the 30 students in a casual and collaborative learning environment.
Verafin Inc. is a proud sponsor of this inaugural event.
