SUBJECT: Fracking 101: An in-person backgrounder for media on the science and risks of fracking

DATE: January 28, 2014

Note to editors:

Journalists are invited to an in-camera session with recognized fracking expert Dr. Maurice Dusseault, professor of geological engineering in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Waterloo, to hear about and ask questions related to the science and risks of fracking.
The session will take place on Friday, Jan. 31, from 12-1 p.m. and consist of a short presentation followed by a discussion session with an opportunity to answer any questions you may have about the topic.
Admission is free; complimentary parking and lunch will be provided. The session will be held in the Genesis boardroom, room IIC-3000 in the Bruneau Centre for Research and Innovation (formerly Inco). For those who are not able to attend in person, the event will be webcast.
Registration is required for both the meeting and the webcast. The Harris Centre recognizes the difficulty faced by members of the media in planning more than a day ahead.
However, for catering and other reasons, we would appreciate receiving some idea of your interest in this session by lunchtime on Wednesday, Jan. 29.
