SUBJECT: Enactus Memorial competition offers $2,500 prize for student entrepreneurs

Enactus Memorial will host its sixth annual Innovation Challenge on Tuesday, Nov. 5, from 6-8 p.m. at the Faculty of Business Administration on the St. John’s campus.
Members of the media and the public are invited to attend this Dragons’ Den-style competition, during which student entrepreneurs pitch their business ideas to a panel of judges. Up for grabs is a $2,500 cash prize and one free year in Enactus Memorial’s Launch Pad program (Canada’s first student-run entrepreneurial incubation centre). Enactus Memorial and local law firm Cox & Palmer have partnered to host the event.
“This year we are excited to have received the highest number of applications ever for the challenge,” said Launch Pad project manager Diana Flemming. “This means that people can expect a high calibre of business ideas on display and an exciting competition.”
Five finalists were selected from the applicant pool.
The Innovation Challenge will take place in BN-1009 on the first floor of the business. Presentations are from 6-7 p.m. with a reception to follow in the RBC Atrium.
Enactus is an international non-profit organization that works with leaders in business and higher education to mobilize university students to make a difference in their communities while developing the skills to become socially responsible business leaders. Participating university teams apply business concepts to develop outreach projects that improve the quality of life and standard of living for people in need.
Enactus Memorial currently includes 55 students from the faculties of business administration, engineering and arts who run 10 community projects.
