SUBJECT: Television series created at Memorial University’s Botanical Garden premieres on Rogers TV

DATE: February 11, 2013

During the cold months of winter the snow falls and the winds howl outside, so now is the best time of year to stay in, relax and discover all About the Garden, say staff at Memorial University of Newfoundland’s Botanical Garden.
About the Garden, a new television series premiering on Rogers TV Channel 9 on Valentine’s Day, will provide an abundance of gardening information to help the amateur and professional alike. Filmed entirely on location at Memorial University’s Botanical Garden, the show features staff and Friends of the Garden volunteers sharing a passion for gardening and showcasing the beautiful garden.
“About the Garden is a lively, informative and entertaining local television series all about the garden,” said Ms. Klose, director of the garden and host of the series. “It provides wise tips for success from the garden’s experts that you can apply to your garden at home. The show allows us to share our passion for nature and gardening education, while providing practical, useful information to our community.”
Ten episodes will cover a range of gardening topics. Viewers will learn valuable techniques to help their gardens grow, including seeding and plant propagation, containers, rock gardening, crevice gardening, tips on growing and maintenance techniques of annuals, perennials, bulbs, trees and shrubs and how to prepare your garden for winter, plus other garden-related tasks. Friends of the Garden volunteers will pose common garden questions and the professionals will provide the answers. The themed display gardens and the garden’s education programs will also be featured. The series is a co-production of Bill Coultas, of Springwater Productions, and Cle Newhook, of Axis Consulting.
“For many viewers, Memorial University’s Botanical Garden is a jewel yet to be discovered,” said Mr. Coultas. “I was glad to be a part of a project that shows how beautiful it is.”
About the Garden will premiere Thursday, Feb. 14. Each episode will air 14 times a week for 10 weeks on Rogers TV Channel 9 and will soon be featured on Eastlink TV.
