SUBJECT: Memorial University musicians to sing for supper at fundraising event

DATE: May 9, 2012

On Wednesday, May 16, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the D.F. Cook Recital Hall in the School of Music, musicians from across Memorial University will share their talents in support of the Campus Food Bank.
The event will feature Band on the MUN, a musical group composed of employees of Memorial University.
“There are so many great musicians at Memorial who enjoy sharing their time and talent to benefit others,” said organizer Dan Dillon, business development officer with the Division of Life LongLearning. “Along with the performers from the School of Music, there are also plenty of people who work in a variety of other departments and faculties here at Memorial who are also involved in a number of choirs, bands and other musical performance activities in their spare time. This is an opportunity for them to take the stage, while raising money for a great on-campus cause. Employees at Memorial are so generous and are always willing to help others in need.”
While many of the performances will have a rock and roll edge, other genres, including folk, blues and jazz music, will also be represented.
“We encourage all of the performers to share what they do, whether it’s playing a guitar, song-writing, singing or blowing on a trombone. T.he variety is part of the fun and excitement of the evening,” said Mr. Dillon. “That said, we also build in group performances that give our audience a chance to see what happens when all of these different performers work together.”
The event is open to the public, with tickets available at the door. For more information, please contact Dan Dillon at ddillon@mun.ca.
